Hacktivism 102: Codes and Cryptography

In this Free Skool workshop that I co-facilitated, we offered hands-on experience with non-digital ciphers and cryptography.

We covered pen-and-paper methods like substitution, scytale and monoalphabetic ciphers, and the skills needed to break them. Using basic math skills and creative thinking, we’ll encrypt simple message together and exploit the weaknesses of each method to crack the code.

While modern encryption has rendered many of these methods obsolete, understanding the basic concepts gives greater understanding of current high-tech methods as well.
